You will find that Niko decides to help out Roman with his rundown cab stand and keep thugs off his back until he can figure out how to make money and connections in Liberty City. You also get to discover the real reasons that Niko left his homeland.

So begins Grand Theft Auto IV, the newest - and easily the best - entry in the wildly popular GTA series. The game manages to take the tried-and-true already successful game experience , which involves taking missions to earn cash and climb the corporate ladder of a criminal operation or sightseeing in Liberty City, and turns it into something that feels completely new and updated. Some even claim that it a gaming masterpiece that is a picture-perfect snapshot of the underworld of today's big cities

When the pedestrians, cars and buildings became repetitive in previous GTA releases it was always tempting to get bored, steal a cop car and end up in your own North Hollywood shootout. There are many more times as many distractions in GTA IV, including working cell phones, televisions that can flip channels and the Liberty City version of the Internet. This time, the mundane is as interesting as the some of the unsavory elements of the game.

But that's not to say it's empty of meaning. GTA IV is a crass cultural commentary that mocks the American media's obsession with sex and violence and money. This is the reason why so many people in the media and government are bothered by the Grand Theft Auto games. For example, the Chicago Transit Authority pulled 385 ads for the game from its subways, but the same organization has no problem letting violent films advertise in the same places.) If these people actually played GTA IV, maybe they would realize that not all videogames are for kids and ultimately get the joke - that the game also rejects the violence, sexism, and consumerism it appears to embrace. It is worth mentioning that Grand Theft Auto IV is definitely for a mature audience.

Balancing Family and Work

You strive to be a good parent, to be available for your children when they need you. And you try to spend an adequate amount of time with them. You also enjoy your work and strive to be a productive, well-regarded employee (not to mention that your family needs the money). You know you must maintain some sort of balance between your work life and family life, even though at times this seems an impossible task.

Over the last ten years, the working world has changed. Women and men now have more options in how, when and where they work. Lets explore some of these work options. Maybe one of them can better your current work-family situation.

FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Full-time employment used to mean working eight hours a day for five days per week. Full-time employment now includes any work over 32 hours per week, no matter how many days it is divided over, or where the location of the employment is.

One newer type of full-time employment is flextime. According to HR Magazine, the magazine of the Society for Human Resource Management, flextime allows employees to take advantage of a range of starting and ending times for the workday. Some companies give employees the option of starting anywhere from 6:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and of leaving eight and one half-hours later. Often with flextime there is a rule that all workers must be present between a core group of hours, such as 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Another full-time work option is the compressed workweek, which HR Magazine defines as allowing employees to condense their work week into fewer days. This is often done in what is called a 4-10 configuration of four 10-hour days each week; another common compression scheme is the 5-4/9 (nine 9-hour days over the course of ten work days.
The third non-traditional full-time work arrangement is telecommuting, which HR Magazine describes as employees working at home or some other decentralized location during part or all of their scheduled hours. New technologies have made telecommuting a popular option for companies and employees, though some occupations will never permit telecommuting.

PART-TIME WORK

If full-time work seems to take too much time away from your family, perhaps you are considering part-time employment. Once again, there are many options.

One type of part-time employment is permanent part-time, which HR Magazine defines as steady part-time employment, usually for a set number and configuration of hours each week, usually under 30 hours. Permanent part-time may mean working five days a week for six hours or less a day, or may mean working two or three full (8-hour) days a week.

Another type of part-time employment is job sharing, which HR Magazine defines as an option that allows two people to share the responsibilities of one full-time position. This option is often available when a company wishes to keep a valued employee who seeks reduced hours but holds a job requiring full-time coverage. For professionals, job sharing can be an attractive work option for keeping on the career track while spending more time with family or pursuing more education. But to get job sharing to be a positive experience for the company and the job-sharing employees, both people need excellent communications skills and a teamwork attitude.

The two other types of part-time work include contract workers and phased or partial retirement. Contract workers are hired either full or part time on a temporary or as needed basis, either for a particular project or during a rush season. Local department stores hire seasonal, part-time employees, especially during the winter holiday season.

Phased or partial retirement part-time is when an employee about to retire cuts back his or her hours to part-time. When retirement is phased, the hours are reduced according to a formula over a set period of time. Partial retirement, on the other hand, resembles permanent part-time employment, according to HR Magazine. Both partial and phased retirement can start out as job shares, with a former full-time employee training the job sharer to possibly eventually take over the position.

When thinking about your employment situation, keep these thoughts in mind:

More time at home doesnt necessarily mean your kids will spend more time with you.

Only you know what amounts to an adequate balance between home and work.

There is no right amount of time to spend with your children, beyond some quality time each day, where you continue to get to know each other and enjoy each others companywhere you learn together.

Only you know if your children need more time with you, and if you can afford to live on less money.

So the next time the baby pulls on your pantyhose, think of your options and then exercise what is most appropriate for you.

When taking pictures in the past you simply used a film camera, everyone had a film camera and they either took it to the local processor to get the pictures developed or they learned to develop their own film.

Today you have a choice, digital or film pictures. Anyone who is more familiar with using a film camera may wonder which one is best? There are pros and cons to using both digital or film photos.

The Pros to Digital

Most people find that digital cameras are great. You get instant access to the pictures, you can see the pictures immediately after taking them and decide whether you will need to do a re-take. After taking any pictures you can easily download the pictures to your computer.

The pictures are easily stored on your computer. At any time you can choose to enhance them or print them out on your printer. You can take hundreds of pictures with your digital camera and store them on a disk. Compare that to the number of film pictures you have had developed and are now stored in boxes in your home.

The Cons of Digital

There are several cons to having a digital camera. For starters, your pictures can easily get lost. After taking many pictures, you download them to your computer and then never really do anything with them. Unless you do a back up of the photos, there is always the chance that your computer will crash and you could lose hundreds of your cherished pictures.

Some people think that digital photos do not offer the same look and feel as the film photos. This is one of the reasons why many professional photographers are still using film over digital cameras. If you decide to print out your pictures at home it can become somewhat costly. To do this you will need good quality printer paper and colored cartridges, these things can add up and become pricey.

The Pros of Film

Many professional photographers still prefer using film cameras. For anyone taking pictures as a hobby, with a film camera you are able to make adjustments to get the exact look that you desire. With the smaller digital cameras this is not always possible. Using a film camera, a person is forced to have their photos developed soon after taking them. The pictures are then readily available to look at and not stored away on a disk.

The Cons of Film

Film cameras are not as convenient and so are losing popularity. You are not able to view your pictures before getting them developed. Some pictures may not have turned out the way you would have liked but you have to get the whole roll developed anyway, paying for pictures that you really do not want. You are not able to go through your pictures and delete the bad ones before getting them developed as you can with a digital.

There you have it, which one is best, digital or film pictures? One is really no better than the other; the choice is more of a personal preference.

For example, I prefer the digital because then I have the option to view my pictures right away. In the past, I have taken my film in to be developed and became very excited when picking them up, only to be disappointed to see pictures of people with their heads cut off, fuzzy pictures and so on.

Consider both digital or film cameras when looking to purchase a new one. Weigh the pros and cons and make your decision based on what is best suited for your needs.
