Software - Cover Factory

Somebody did a study on Internet marketing and the sale of ebooks and other items. One of the things they discovered was that sales increased if you had a photo of the product, especially if it's an ebook, on the sales page. The problem is, ebooks are electronic. They aren't things that you can physically hold in your hands or see. So how do you show a photo of it on your sales page? You could have somebody design one for you at $100 a pop. What if you're selling 10 ebooks? That's $1,000 just to have covers made. Who can afford that?

Cover Factory to the rescue.

There are many cover creating software packages on the market, but most come with a pretty heavy price tag. That's what makes Cover Factory so incredible. It's dirt cheap. And while most things this cheap aren't worth spit, Cover Factory is a very professional looking package and does the same job as the higher priced models, maybe better.

The big problem with making covers for ebooks is that in order to make them look real, they have to have a 3D look to them. Unless you are an incredibly gifted artist, even with Paint Shop Pro or another graphic arts software package, this isn't easy to do. Ask anyone who's tried. It can be frustrating to say the least.

Cover Factory solves that problem. Its 3D rendering capabilities are incredible. And you have the options of many different types of looks, such as software box, spiral bound covers and a whole lot more. You can tilt the books and boxes in just about any way imaginable in order to get just that right look that you need.

But these aren't blank covers and boxes we're talking about. With Cover Factory you can either use the tools of the package itself to create your own designs and lettering or you can import images and text to paste on the cover itself. Plus, as with a real 3D software box, you can place lettering and designs not only on the front cover but also on the sides.

The software comes with a huge library of images that you can use for your covers. Many of them are quite beautiful. They can be cropped and edited in any way you like and even combined so that you can achieve some very cool effects.

Speaking of effects, you have many of them as well. You can produce books with shadows behind or in front of them. You can create a bounced lighting effect that looks like somebody is shining a lamp on the cover. You can double the image itself so that it looks like the book or box is being reflected off of a mirror.

If you're wondering if this software really brings results, an associate of mine uses it and sells hundreds of his products each month. While there is no way to tell if Cover Factory has anything to do with this, one thing is certain. It hasn't hurt.

If you're in the need for a cover producing piece of software at a bargain price, Cover Factory is the way to go.

How to Build a Gaming-Racing Wheel Yourself to Play Your Favorite Computer Games

Hello friend. Ever wished you could drive the cars the way we do it in the real world? Here I will give you a brief guide for building a steering wheel which has got not just a steering brake and gas pedal, but a Clutch, and yeah a gear box too. It wont cost you more than $10, if you have the most essential tools readily available like saw, screw driver and the like.

It's not only damn cheap, its very much like the same gaming / racing wheel that you purchase for 100+ dollars. The only major difference is that our gaming / racing wheel has got no force feedback mechanism. Its no big deal unless you are a very serious gamer and has got enough money to spend on a Logitech G25 or the like. Here go the highlights and features that the gaming / racing wheel you build will have

Steering wheel with around two full rotations (720 deg) in both directions as in a real car

Separate Gas, Brake and Clutch pedals

A gear box with sequential shifting

Constructing the Steering wheel:

Fetch a plastic / PVC pipe of 2cm diameter (approx) and length 80cm (approx). Light up a candle and heat the pipe from one end to the other end. While heating, slightly bend the tube in increments so that when the whole length gets heated and bent, it takes the shape of a gaming / racing wheel, with open ends. Now heat one of the open ends of the pipe and push it on the other end, so that the ends overlaps and the pipe closes into a wheel. Let it cool. Now wash the pipe and dry it with a towel. Apply super-glue to the joined ends to strengthen the bond.

Take a plywood piece of length 20cm and width 5cm and place it at the center of the wheel. Use M-seal or any similar hard mass forming adhesive (used in plumbing) to fix the plywood to the ends of the gaming / racing wheel.

Constructing the Steering Base:

Now that the gaming / racing wheel has been made, lets build the steerings base. Take a card board box of approx 30cm x 20cm. Make sure that the box is firm enough. Now take two metal pipes (aluminium preferably). The larger pipe should have around 3cm diameter and the smaller one having 1cm diameter. The larger metal pipe should have a length not less than 20cm and the smaller pipe should have a length not less than 30cm.

Make a hole at the center of the box and pass the larger pipe through it so that only 1/3rd of it remains outside. Place the pipe slanting slightly upwards. Fix the pipe on to the box using the hard adhesive (Mseal). When the adhesives cures, you can pass the smaller metal pipe through the larger one attached to the box. Attach the smaller pipes outside end to the wheel's plywood base. Now you should be able to rotate the wheel freely on its base. If the rotation is not smooth, you can put more adhesive and file it up near the contact points where the larger pipe meets the smaller one.

Building the steering wheels Internal Assembly:

For constructing the steering wheels internal assembly we need a few more components. We need a 10K potentiometer and a pair of gear wheels. The 10K POT you can purchase from any electronic spare parts shop. The gear wheels you can either purchase or get from some old toys. The gear wheels should be such that one is at least four times larger than the other, but at the same time their teeth should couple well.

The large metal pipe extends to about half of the boxes inside. Cut plywood pieces and fix them on to the box using adhesives to support the metal pipe very firmly. The plywood has to be extended to the other end so as to support the potentiometer. The smaller gear wheel has to be mounted at the end of the small metal pipe (passing through the large metal pipe). A thin but strong metal rod can be made hot and pierced through the gear wheels other end so as to act as a pivot. This pivot rod should extend out through the other side of the box. The potentiometer needs to be mounted on the plywood using metal braces. The larger gear wheel has to be glued to the handle of the potentiometer.

Solder a pair of wires to the POTs terminals (center terminal and either of the other). Once the smaller gear wheel is fixed, we can align the larger one so that the teeth are coupled properly. First rotate the larger gear in both directions and find the approximate center position of the potentiometer. Keep the potentiometer at that position. Now adjust the plywood pieces used as support so that the teeth of both the gear wheels are aligned for a proper coupling. They should be tightly coupled. Using sponges below the base plywood support, can give adequately pressured coupling between the teeth.

In order to give the steering a spring force to keep it centered, attach a pair of rubber bands to the pivot that protrudes out of the other side of the card board box.

Building the Pedals:

All the three pedals of the gaming / racing wheel are identical. A 50cm x 30cm plywood piece will be needed to make the pedals base. Three 10cm x 10cm plywood pieces are required for making the pedals. Also three 10K potentiometers, small hinges and three 10cm long thin rectangular wooden bars are needed.

Place the pedals using a hinge to a base plywood piece. Attach one potentionmeter to the hinge of the three pedals, so that when the hinge rotates, the potentiometer also gets rotated. Attach a rubber ball below the pedal so that it provides a spring action. Solder wires to the potentiometer.

Building the Gear box of the gaming / racing wheel:

For building the gear box, you would need a sufficiently large and stable card-board box. (Go for a plywood box if you can afford it). Make sure that the box has sufficient height so that the gear knob will be at a comfortable position when you start racing. Also get a handle like thing (old joystick handle) to act as the gear knob. You need to make a small rectangular slit on the cardboard box for the gears metal stick to slide up and down in it. Attach two metal plates at the top and bottom ends of the slit so that when the gears metal stick touches it when you shift up or down, they act as switches.

Use a thin metal pipe as the gear stick of the gaming / racing wheel and attach the gear knob on top of it. Provide a hole in the gear box for taking in the wires, if your joystick handle has buttons on it.

Provide sufficient support to the gears shaft at the bottom and arrange rubber bands or spring mechanisms to keep it centered.

Steering Wheel Interconnection:

The steering wheel that we build is basically a joystick and hence it connects to the game port of your computer. The gameport has a 15 pin D connector and is located at the back side of your system (mostly near the audio jacks). The pin diagram of the gameport you can find in my websites detailed step by step tutorial to build the wheel. (My website address you can see the the references section or in the authors details)

You need to buy a male gameport connector (DB15 male) to plug into the female connector present at the back of your cpu. The joystick (gameport) interface is a very simple - to - implement interface which houses a few switches and axes. All you need to do is connect your potentiometers to the axes X1, Y1, X2, Y2 and switches to S1, S2, S3 and S4. See the table given to the left. The variation in potentiometers when you turn the wheel or press gas pedal will be measured by the game port and can be used to control your game. You can assign the axes of the gaming / racing wheel and configure them using the windows control panel.

Switches S1, S2, S3 and S4 can be used for connecting to gear up, gear down, horn and hand brake switches respectively. When you shift the gear shaft up, the metal comes in contact and switch gets closed. Similar is the case with the other switches. +5 is nothing but the 5V dc that is available from the game port and G stands for ground.

Configuring the Steering wheel:

The first step is to assemble the three units of the gaming / racing wheel together. Mount the steering unit on to your PC table. Keep the pedal on the floor and the gear box to your side. Connect together the units to the gear box using connectors (relim connector or the like). Connect the 15 wire cable with the male DB15 connector attached, to the gameport at the back of your computer. Once the position is set well, we can proceed to configure the steering wheel in Windows.

Open Control Panel in Windows and open the Game Controllers. This brings up the Game Controllers dialog box. Please note that the steps being mentioned vary in different versions of windows. Hence illustrative diagrams are not given.

In the Game Controllers dialog box, click on Add. This brings up the Add Game controller dialog box. Click on Custom. In the dialog box that appears, choose Race Car controller. Choose the Axes as 4 and Buttons as 4. Enter a name of your choice in the Controller Name field and click OK. Now the new controller should be displayed in the previous dialog box. With the new controller selected, click OK.

If the device works fine, the game controller dialog box will display OK beside the controller's name. If anything went wrong, a 'Not connected' status will be displayed for the device. If that is the case, read the section in the yellow box below. If the gaming / racing wheel is working well, click on Properties button, with the device selected. This brings up the Testing and calibration dialog boxes. If the wheel is not centered in the test area, go to Calibrate and follow the instructions to complete calibration.

Make Your Own Video Games For PCs and Consoles

Recently there has been a demand for tools which will allow the user to create video games for the PC and consoles. In the last few years many options have become available, and in this article I will outline a few of them. I will also cover some of the terminology of this subject, and provide some alternatives to creating your own games on the PC.

Make Your Own Video Games for Consoles:

The only console system you can currently make games for is the Xbox 360. To do so you need to download XNA and join their "Creator's Club" for $99.00 a year. XNA has been designed to be fairly easy to use, but some programming experience is required.

Make Your Own Video Games for the PC:

There are many options if you want to make your own games on the PC. The first thing you need to know is the difference between a game engine, and a GCS (Game Creation System.)

Game Engines:

A video game engine is just that, an engine. Few if any tools come with it, so some programming is required. There are many commercial engines available such as the Unreal Engine or CryEngine 2, and almost as many free alternatives. Crystal Space 3D and the Irrlicht Engine are examples of the later.

GCSs:

If you don't want to mess with any programming you need a GCS. A GCS packages a video game engine along with a variety of tools which can be used to make a game. There are a lot of commercial options, such as Torque or Gamestudio, but no comprehensive free or open source alternatives. Delta 3D is one such choice, but you will need additional tools to create games with it.

I should also mention that GCSs may not be a perfect fit for your particular needs when making a game for the PC. Most game developers use many custom tools tailor made for their needs as a result. So your best bet is to use tools that are specialized for different aspects of game development. You will need a good programming environment, a good image editor, a good sound and music editor, and a good modeling animation studio.

The current industry standard modeling and animation studios are 3DS Max and Maya. However True Space and Blender both provide excellent free alternatives, and are backed by large, supportive communities. The industry standard image editing programs are Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop, but the free alternatives Gimp and Paint.NET will work just as well. Expensive programs like Cakewalk are used for the creation of music and sounds, but Audacity is a free alternative. The best free programming environment is Microsoft Visual Studio Express.

Making video games requires a lot of work, but with the right tools it can be done fairly quickly and easily. Now that you know what tools to look for, it should be a lot easier to find what you need.

How Computer Graphics (CG) Changed Special Effects in Movies

If you spend some time during your weekends to watch some old thriller titles, you would get nothing but boredom, from those special effects that kept you at the edge of your seat, a couple of years back. What makes this tremendous change in the special effects industry in such a short span of time? Nothing but the magical entry of computer graphics into the special effects industry.

Special effects in olden days: The special effects in olden days were sometimes referred to as camera techniques. During those days, computers had no role in the industry that we see today. Most special effects movies with human casts would do some stunts with an alien or a monstrous creature. Either they would make a full sized model of the creature with the aid of robotics and hydraulic systems or would create a small scale model and magnify it while mixing up the scene. Usually a combination of these techniques was used in olden days.

How computer graphics revolutionized the field: Computer graphics really became a magic wand for the movie director. lets see how:

Limits imposed by real world models are gone: Before its introduction, a movie director how ever creative he is had so many limitations. The special effects he could incorporate into a movie were limited by the robotic creatures, whose movements were obviously limited by the hydraulic machines that powered them. Keep in mind that the robotics field was not as developed during those times as it is now. In the case of computer graphics, the models are modeled using a graphics workstation. All it takes is a team of skilled graphic designers and powerful workstations to render the scenes. The physical restraints got almost completely dissolved.

Cost has been dramatically reduced: In the olden days, budget had been a significant constraint since, the monstrous models created for movies used to cost a fortune. These models were crafted with robust devices and the drive train that powered them would be highly sophisticated, so that they would appear as real and their movements as fluid as possible. Due to this level of sophistication, the expense for the creation of such models always turned out to be high. With the introduction of computer graphics, the cost of creation of a model could be limited to the hiring cost of a team of graphics professionals, a farm of fast computers for rendering and experts to control the work flow. The physical models created could be brought down to the minimum.

Minimal wastage of resources: In the past, the models created for a movie would cost a significant share of the whole budget but if the movie happens to be not a sequel, the models might not find a reuse in the future at all. This would be nothing but a pure wastage of money and resources. Since, in computer graphics, nothing much exists physically, no wastage of real physical resources occur. If a CG model ever needs to be altered, all it takes is the effort from the part of a graphics professional.

Time saving: The fabrication process, used for the creation of physical models was time consuming. The process would demand time for the setting and fixing of joints irrespective of the availability of human labor. But in the case of computer graphics, the more the number of skilled workforce the production team has at hands, the faster the work will get done.

Far superior reality: With the advent of the latest animation and modeling software, the scenes are getting so realistic that it is hard to distinguish. The presence of latest composing, mixing and editing software, makes it a cakewalk to blend special effects scenes with the usual cast shots.

The introduction of computer graphics can be claimed as one of the very few industry refinements that has caused almost zero negative effects. The days of fabricating huge casts and models to make a six legged creature, that would make the audience scream are far gone. CG revolutionized the field so dramatically that our expectations and benchmarks have been quadrupled in a time-frame of couple of years.

Wind Power Cost

There must be some reasons why some people could reduce their electricity bill and save money over others. Actually, there are thousands of people how could reduce their electricity bill by up to 80% or even could eliminate it complexly by using a wind power generator in their homes.

Using wind power is a very good idea to drastically reduce your power bill; you can easily reduce that bill and save the environment after owning one of those wind generators. The main problem of using that wind power is the very expensive price of the ready new ones; it may cost you more than $300 to buy a single unit of those wind generators.

If you search on Amazon or any other big stores on the internet, you'll find many good wind power generators, those wind generators will cost you about $300 to $500 according to the amount of Kilowatts they are producing. You can also search on eBay for used wind generators; they will also cost you very much money, something like $200 for the single unit.

Instead of buying a ready expensive wind power generator, I strongly recommend you to build your own system manually. Yes, you can do it for only $100; you just need a simple step by step instruction guide and you can easily build your own system in minutes. There is no need of any experience to do so. Only $100 to build your own system and you will be able to repeat the process for more units for your home electricity.

Actually, building a home wind generator will save you thousands of dollars every year, one or tow units will cut your electricity bill as never before. And to save more money, I'd recommend building it yourself, you can learn the process fast and you can build the same system for your friends and neighbors for more income, it is a perfect part time job.

How to Make a Solar Panel - Build Solar Panels at Home

I heard this question how to make a solar panel from the people a lot of time. People are now looking to build their own solar panel to save on electricity bills. Yes you can save up to 80% on electricity bills every month. So lets have a look on some of tips to build a solar panel at home.

As you already know if you want to buy solar panels from the market then it may cost you around $1600. But if you want to build it yourself then it may cost you less than $200 with dedicated work. Don't worry it is not that much difficult to build it than you think. You need some parts to build it like, copper sheet, sand paper, large clear bottle, water, table salt, metal sheers for cutting, electric stove,dc motor, battery etc. As you can get these parts in your nearby hardware stores.

First step to build a solar panel is clean copper sheets with soap and soak with sand paper after some time. Cut down copper sheet as it exactly fit on electric stove. Burn copper sheet at high temperature and after some time the copper sheet start to change its colors like red, yellow. Just leave copper on the stove for at least half an hour to convert copper sheet into a thick layer with black coat over it.

After heating copper leave it to cooled for half an hour it help to remove the black layer and it has to remove otherwise it will damage red cuprous oxide. Leave it for another 10 minutes after that remove the black copper oxide with soap and your hands. But avoid scratch or copper sheet .

After this you have cut another piece of copper as it has to be same in size. By using the alligator clips join the two sheets together and put it inside a bottle or jar. Fix the copper sheet in a manner that they do not get in touch with each other and then fill the jar or bottler with a dissolved saltwater but make sure here that the alligator clips are dry.

These are some basic steps to build a solar panel but you need a perfect do it yourself plan which are available on internet. You can get step by step instructions on how to make a solar panel yourself with useful images.

There are plenty of guides available on internet so review the Top 3 Guides which show step by step instructions you how to make solar panel at home

The Oceans' Wave Power

For more than 200 years inventors worldwide have filed patents for wave-power technology of a dazzling variety of designs-bobbing objects ("ducks"), buoys, articulated rafts, floating bags, overspills, and many others. There has been no shortage of ideas. Many of these ideas are in fact technically feasible, so it seems a shame that this renewable energy resource has not been much used. The main challenge is building a system that is economically attractive when so many other forms of energy production (nuclear, fossil fuels) receive subsidies and already have infrastructure in place. There are some wave power systems in place around the globe: the Faroe Islands; Islay, Scotland; Oahu, Hawaii (providing power for the U.S. Marine Corps. base there); Santo, Spain; Portugal; and even the world's first commercial "wave farm" in England.

The World Energy Council has estimated that wave power could produce as much energy in a year as 2,000 oil, gas, coal and nuclear power plants' twice the amount of electricity produced worldwide-by generating as much as 2 terawatts (that's 1 trillion watts).

Not every place is a candidate for wave power generation. Prime locations identified are Scotland, northern Canada, southern Africa, and the Atlantic Northeast and Pacific Northwest of the United States. Experts have estimated that wave-power systems in the Pacific Northwest alone could generate up to 70 kW per meter of coastline.

Typical Designs

Wave-power systems can be located onshore or offshore, and come in a surprising range of designs. There are currently four basic "capture" methods: point absorbers (largely vertical, with a relatively small footprint on the surface); attenuators (horizontal footprint, arranged parallel to the waves to undulate with the flow); terminators (perpendicular to the waves); and overtopping (perpendicular to the waves, which break over the system). There are different power take-off systems including hydraulic ram (water hammer pumps water above the starting point); elastomeric hose pump (peristaltic, like your intestinal tract), pump-to-shore, hydroelectric turbine, air turbine, and linear electrical generator. Here are some systems already in operation, or close to it:

OFFSHORE: POINT ABSORBER SYSTEMS

1. The Salter "Duck"-In 1970 Stephen Salter ("the father of wave power"), a professor at the University of Edinburgh, designed a wave-power device that could both stop 90 percent of the wave motion and convert 90 percent of that into electricity, a standard that all other designed continue to be measured against. Ironically, the Duck itself never went into use. During the 1990s, a project based on the Duck and dubbed the OSPREY (Ocean Swell Powered Renewable Energy), commenced in the Clyde Estuary of the Scottish coast. Capable of generating 1 mW of power, the OSPREY was on its way to becoming an unqualified success until Hurricane Felix came along and sunk it (at great expense in terms of both money and confidence).

2. The AquaBuOY wave energy device-AquaBuOYs (Finivera Renewables) really do look like navigational buoys, and this is no coincidence. Obviously, maximum output from a wave-power device should be during those times when the waves are at their highest, but if the technology can't withstand rough seas (as with the OSPREY, above), they aren't much good. Operating on the premise that since navigational buoys can survive for decades in all sorts of conditions, the AquaBuOYs were designed to ride the waves for an estimated 100 years. The vertical wave action drives a two-stroke hose pump that directs pressurized seawater into a turbine connected to a generator; the resulting power is sent via an underwater transmission line. While at least four projects are in the permitting process (including one in Makah Bay, WA), as of this writing.

3. PowerBuoy "Like the AquaBuOY above, the PowerBuoy resembles a navigational buoy, although one with long cylinder extending far below that houses the mechanics of the system. These PowerBuoys (Ocean Power Technologies) are placed from one to five miles offshore in 100 to 200 feet of water, and can be ganged together to form a "wave-power farm" such as the one to be installed off the coast of Santo, Spain. That 1.39MW station will have one 40kW and nine 150kW PowerBuoys.

OFFSHORE: ATTENUATOR SYSTEMS

1. Pelamis - Ocean Power Delivery, Ltd., developed world's first commercial offshore wave-power facility using its Pelamis Wave Energy Converter, a string of steel cyclinders hinged to articulate. It lies half-submerged, like a 150-meter-long, bright red sea snake (pelamis is the genus for the sea snake), more or less facing into the waves. The cylinders contain hydraulic pumps activated by the wave action; the electricity comes as high-pressure oil gets pumped into generators. The first phase of the wave farm, located 5 km off the coast of Portugal, comprises three 750kW Pelamis "snakes" that combined to generate 2.25 MW; another 28 are expected to be added, bringing the total power generated to 22.5 MW'enough to provide electricity for more than 15,000 homes.

OFFSHORE: TERMINATOR SYSTEMS

1. Nearshore OWC-This is an offshore version of the Limpet, described below.

OFFSHORE: OVERTOPPING SYSTEMS

1. Wave Dragon-Overtopping systems work very much like hydroelectric dams, using the potential energy of water stored at an elevation higher than the turbines it drives. The Wave Dragon overtopping system funnels the waves into its own reservoir to create a head; the water is then released through channels that contain turbines. The Wave Dragon is moored 25 to 40 meters offshore in deep water, somewhat like a floating beach.

ONSHORE: OSCILLATING WATER COLUMN:

1. Limpet (Land Installed Marine Powered Energy Transformer)- This an oscillating water column (OWC) system to convert the waves' kinetic energy to electrical power. Picture a box with the open end submerged but slightly tilted toward the incoming waves, with air trapped inside the box. Now imagine there is a narrow outlet for this air, and inside this tube is a turbine. As the waves raise the level of the water inside the box, the air rushing in and out of the tube powers the turbine. A Limpet system (WaveGen) in Islay, Scotland, uses an inclined oscillating water column (OWC) system optimized for the area's anverage annial wave intensity, and feeds a pair of 250kW generators. The Limpet power station in the Faroes is very similar. WaveGen also designs a near-shore oscillating water-column system.

There are many companies designing wave-power systems using these and other designs (such as the tapered channel system, an onshore system, and the pedulor system, an offshore device), and new ones seem to come along frequently as more countries come to recognize the potential of wave power.

Wave Power Advantages

1. Wave energy is an abundant and renewable resource.
2. Even though not every country has coastline, the combined potential output of wave-power generation would meet all the electricity needs of the world.
3. Although the equipment represents a substantial investment, the "fuel" is free and not confined by geopolitical boundaries.
4. The effect on the environment is deemed to be minimal.

Wave Power Disadvantages

1. These are most effective near coastlines, of which there is a finite supply.
2. Large scale systems are still in the early stages.

Tennis Shoes - Fashion Or Comfort?

For years tennis shoes have been used for sports, exercise and many other different activities. For quite a long time, however, they were simply plain with no design on them. Now, things are rapidly changing and over the past decade they are worn for just about anything.

Although some of the newer styled sneakers are comfortable, now there are several extras as part of a unique design. Does people wear them today for fashion or comfort? The answer is basically both. Many individuals wear them as an everyday activity because they do consider them comfortable.

Research has been done on several different brands, styles, and pairs of tennis shoes, as well as surveys to see what people really want. You would be amazed at the end result. Fashion sneakers have become a trend. They are worn with pride and with clothing that is dressy.

Fashion designers are diligently working to make trainers fashionable and comfortable, as well as affordable. The overall industry of shoes that are sold is overwhelming, to say the least. In fact, recent studies show that the sales of tennis shoes are much higher than other brands such as boots or formal footwear.

Sneakers can also be purchased via the Internet from a wide variety of web sites. Many of the web sites offer photos as well as descriptions of the sneakers and sizes too. The decision of whether these shoes are really purchased for comfort or fashion now is a close race. For individuals now, fashion and comfort in tennis shoes are both important.

There are fashionable trainers in the market industry today that can literally be worn with clothing outfits that are stylish and classy. Not to mention, an individual who exercises find that tennis shoes are really comfortable. So, the two concepts essentially coincide together.

Sneakers are all over the world and the industry is at an all time high. When the concept of athletic shoes first appeared in the 1950's the idea was for bettering sports events. However, over time the tennis shoes era took leaps and bounds into not only the comfort world but the fashion world as well.

People of all ages wear tennis shoes. There are even tennis shoes designed and created for infants and toddlers! Using the highest quality materials, many companies design the sneakers to be long lasting too.

Good tennis shoes don't have to be expensive in order for them to be fashionable. And, they don't have to be "dull" looking for the sneakers to be comfortable. Athletic shoes are just the kind of footwear that can be worn with anything these days. Tennis shoes are ultimately the trend in footwear and the designs as well as styles are literally endless. There are so many brands of tennis shoes available on the market industry today, that individuals can find exactly what they want.

Tennis Shoes Deals.com - Daniela owns and maintains the site http://www.tennisshoesdeals.com - a huge selection of discount quality brand tennis shoes, probably the most comprehensive of the net where you can find more information about tennis shoes, sneakers, running and walking shoes and trainers.

Tips on Selling Character Designs

Have you ever wondered how some cartoon characters became so famous - with hundreds or thousands of merchandise bearing their names and images? Remove the ones with animated series out of the equation since they have a marketing medium - and you still have a handful of characters out there who became famous through the merit of their designs. Examples are Julius the Monkey and Emily the Stange.

This article discusses some tips for creating and selling cartoon characters.

Cute VS Cool

Are your characters cute or cool? Cute characters easily attract the females and the young children markets - two of the largest consumer markets. Character merchandise is often cheaper and more affordable. Therefore profit through sheer volumes of sales can be quite astounding.

Cool characters are more suitable as collectibles, and often cater more to the male market. As they are often more exclusive and expensive, sales volumes are seldom as impressive as cute character merchandise.

In the spirit of games development, decision makers might simply want to pick a design that is most suited for the game concept. But as far as possible, if the game concept so allows, do try to go for cute characters because they stand a higher chance of getting licensed for merchandising.

Character Bible

A character bible is the foundation for every product that would stem from an intellectual property - be it a game, animated series, comic, story book etc. Regardless of the resulting product, everything should refer back to the character bible. This is what the bible is all about - a kind of blueprint for an intellectual property besides being a showcase for the intellectual property.

Style Guide

A style guide to showcase your characters in their full glory is absolutely necessary if you plan to license your characters. The average licensee is often quite unimaginative and seldom sees beyond what you show them. So if you are showing them screen captures of your game, hoping that they would see the full potential of your character designs, chances are they will not. A style guide with multiple poses and designs of each character would help them understand and appreciate your character designs better.

Product Concept Boards

In your style guide, it would be good to include product concept boards. These are renderings of mock products with your character designs integrated within. Product concept boards are great for letting potential licensees see how they can use your character designs on their products.

Online Desi Games - The Indigenous Delight

We Indians have always been quite keen on everything related to entertainment. Be it cinema, music or games. Our parents spent their leisure time playing cards (rummy being the most popular of all), Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Carrom and chess.

India is a country where fun at home increases manifold when friends and relatives gather. On a holiday or at the weekends, the whole family rejoices by playing some cool indoor games. A child grows up learning Ludo and Snakes and Ladders. Times have changed now but Indians still crave for captivating games. When PCs gained entry into every Indian home, solitaire and freecell kept every one hooked. With the advent of Internet along with social networking sites and chat messengers, the gaming portals have also gripped the masses.

Considering the huge demand and popularity of online games, the Indian entertainment industry has decided to give them an indigenous touch. The aim is to attract the masses. For that. themes based on Indian day-to-day lifestyle are adopted. You can see busy streets, unpretentious villages or intense traffic serving as a backdrop in these games. Bollywood superstars, politicians, sports persons playing the role of the main protagonists in the games. The gamers can relate to the environment easily. Obviously, it is exciting to make Amitabh Bachchan follow your instructions.

Consequently, the gamers remain glued to the game.
The idea to give the games a desi transformation is highly acclaimed throughout the country. The average count of the online gamers in India is comparable to most of the developed countries where online gaming initially evolved.

Some of the games that wrote their success stories are Babul game (with Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead), Laloo Ki Laadli (quite obviously, Laloo Prasad Yadav shines here), Meter down racing (an auto rickshaw race), Bipasha's Beach blaze (Bipasha sizzles on skates in a beach), Salman Safe Mode (Salman behind the steering on Mumbai streets which is not at all safe) are just few of the online desi games created exclusively for our Indian game lovers. People get immense delight watching and controlling their favourite icons with a few keystrokes.
These days, the automobile brands have made their way into the gaming industry to gain publicity amongst the Indians. Logan from Mahindra has launched itself with a racing game. Same goes for Ford, which displays its models through a very popular game.
The dimensions of indoor gaming have changed a lot. But the fun remains the same. The Indian game lovers have come out of the addiction of the usual games board games and now find their niche in the world of online gaming. Online Indian games are scaling new heights with every new innovation and passing day.

Oil Paintings For Everyone

Have you ever wondered why Hand Painted Art is so expensive?

Does it annoy you that it is only the so called elite and wealthy that seem to be able to afford real art?

Is the only art you own just prints or poor imitations?

Is there another way?

There is a new revolution sweeping the art world and it will turn all the stereo types about art on their head and remove a lot of the secrets about why the methods and madness in the art world are the way they are.

The world is going through a phenomenal power and socio-economic shift whereby in the very new future, China and India are going to emerge as the new global superpowers. This means they will be the primary dictators of world affairs, culture and where the greatest business opportunities will present themselves. Now without going into some sort of rant about the pros and cons of this seismic shift in the status quo which is the US filling this role, this does present an interesting opportunity when it comes to art. You can get in early and both enjoy some of the greatest masterpieces the world will come to know in the coming years and also be making sound financial decisions at the same.

There are tremendous amount of talented artists particularly in China, all desperate to get both their name and their creations out into the global arena. To visit with these artists and to observe their hand crafted masterpieces is to realise that you are the presence of artistic genius as if you were lucky enough to stumble upon a Beethoven sitting at the piano at the first time. Previously there has never been a convenient nor practical method, short of travelling to China and visiting these undiscovered wonders at their studios or market stalls, to accessing this art for yourself.

However there are now options and systems which have been created to allow people the world over to access these creations and adorne their homes with oil paintings and the like making family members and friends crazy with jealousy. Paintings covering an entire wall, hand painted to the finest detail, which Westerners assume would cost a minimum of thousands of dollars, are now filling people's homes who earn nothing more than minimum wage. What is more people are having life size paintings of themselves, possibly in front of a famous monuments like the Taj Mahal, commissioned and painted for them. They may be taken from a photo from a recent holiday and suddenly brought to life by their very own Van Gogh or Da Vinci.

To get a sneak preview at one of the new wave of organisations bringing these oil paintings to everbody's lounge room, go to www.jiveexchange.com. There you will find oil paintings that are the first and newest selections of this new Asian revolution that will sweep the world in decades to come. It may just be that Art may be the newest hobby toy of the masses, finally accessible to everybody who so desires it. Art is very personal and what one may find a wonder, another might deem hideous but that is essentially the beauty of paintings as like music it leaves an impression on the person long after it is has left their active stream of consciousness.

Till Next Time...

Fighting the Water With All Purpose Waders

If you enjoy the outdoors, whether it is camping, hiking, or fishing, then you may need a pair of all purpose waders as part of your outdoor gear. Many waders on the market have a breathable feature that will give you comfort whenever you confront extreme temps and waterways.

While it is nearly impossible to find one wader to match every season and application, chest-high stocking-foot breathable waders definitely come closest to fitting the bill. These types of waders are normally equipped with a waterproof and breathable membrane that helps keep water out while allowing perspiration vapors to escape though the membrane, keeping you dry and comfortable. This is especially helpful when wade fishing on warm spring and summer days, or when you are frequently moving in an attempt to cover water.

When the temperature drops in fall and winter, simply adding a good base layer beneath your breathable waders will keep you surprisingly warm, and when you have on your neoprene waders, a good hike to the river gets me soggy, even when the temps get real low. After fishing for thirty minutes or so, this moisture build-up has nowhere to go and you will end up shivering the rest of the day, totally defeating the purpose of the neoprene wader. Neoprene waders are reserved for the absolutely coldest days when you know you will not be doing a lot of hiking, but the rest of the time you will want a pair of waders that are more breathable.

Unlike waders with an attached boot, the stocking-foot waders will give you the option to adapt your footwear to the bottom composition of the waterway. If you only intend to fish the same stretch of water, then by all means, choosing a wader with boots attached that work for that waterway is fine, but if you are the adventurous type, then you will benefit from stocking-foot waders and the ability to adapt to the various bottom compositions encountered when fishing different waterways. As for the wader height, most prefer chest-highs because they are constantly wading out into water that ends up being just a little deeper than they intended. Plus, if you are fairly short, waist-highs only give you a couple of feet of water to wade in comfortably.

Additional reinforcement in the seat and knees for very high-stress and high-wear areas will provide additional strength and durability to ensure extended wader life. Waders that have the one hundred percent waterproof and breathable membrane is laminated to a high grade five-layer nylon upper. Some waders have a front hand-warmer pocket that will keep your hands warm in-between casts. Others have two external zippered organizer pockets and one inside utility pocket that will give you addition areas to stow gear.

Built-in gravel cuffs with lace keepers keep rocks out of your boots, and since they are attached, you will never forget them at home. Most waders have stocking feet that are made with comfortable high-density neoprene and accessory D-rings allow for the attachment of water bottles or whatever else you might need for a day on the water.

Top 10 Tips For Buying a New LCD TV!

So you're thinking about buying a new LCD TV? Great, but it's really important to spend your hard earned cash on a TV that's perfect for you, your home and your wallet! So, we've put together a short 'Top 10 Tips' guide to help you make the most out of your new LCD TV.

This is a great time of year to be thinking about electronic big-ticket items and high definition LCD TVs are hot products that we're all looking to buy at the moment. Here's what you should remember...

1. Be sure you know the price market...LCD and plasma sets are both lower in cost than ever before right now. Once you've got a price range in mind, stick to it. That way you'll never regret spending too much afterwards!

2. For the most reliable quality in picture, sound, and performance, the big name brands are usually the better choice to stick to, but some of the smaller companies are beginning to challenge their dominance. Many of the models like JVC and Sony are known for quality, while LG is quickly becoming a quality player in the LCD TV world.

3. A good idea is to look for clearance models and older sets that are being priced to move. The year's newest models are all going to command top dollar price and you can save a lot of money by taking one of last year's perfectly fine models home with you instead. Models that are only just out of season drop massively in price, however they often have exactly the same features as the latest model in the range!

5. You can get more reductions off your television by asking if they have floor or demonstration models available. As they're already out of the box, its normally a nice way to save cash, but be sure there are no faults or damage to the unit, and insist on the regular warranty too. Check the LCD out at the store and look at the screen from different angles.

6. Take advantage of savings that can be had online. Stores like Amazon can offer incredible savings as they don't have the overheads that physical stores do. Also Amazon have regular sales and discounts to suit the season, so there's always a bargain to be had! Finally Amazon have a huge reputation for being reliable and having great customer service, So why not find a model you like in store, then see if you can save on its price with Amazon?

7. As a general rule of thumb, go for image quality over screen size. Its actually possible to get a television with an LCD screen that is too big for your room! You don't want to find yourself dwarfed by a screen that hurts your eyes to watch. You should be able to sit 10 feet away comfortably and still have a great viewing experience.

8. 1080p LCD TV or a 1920 x 1080 set will offer some of the most bang for your buck, with great picture quality and outstanding definition. Always go for great picture quality as a priority and don't forget to match the television size and features to its planned use, for instance a portable for the bedroom or a large screen for video gaming.

9. Check the reliability rating on any LCD flat screen TV before you purchase it. You can do this by looking at the online sites which show expert and consumer ratings as well as checking the reviews of each model before you commit to purchasing anything.

10. Most of these LCD TV models will come with extended warranties for additional fees, but the reliability of these is good enough to make this strictly optional. Your home insurance policy may cover any accidental damage, so you should decide if an extended warranty is for you. As long as you follow the manufacturers guide and take car of your LCD TV set, you should enjoy years of fantastic viewing out of your new model.

Internet-HDTV Wiring Requirements

Prior to the Internet revolution, buildings usually had two wiring systems, the electrical service and the phone service. When computer networks were required, phone lines were the only means available for data transmission. The original networks that were created for computers to share data simply piggybacked over existing connections and technology.

Today, more options are available (and needed) to meet the networking needs of consumers. A good rule when projecting the future of communications: whatever you can imagine for the future, and multiply that by ten. Who twenty years ago could have predicted the Internet or HDTV or cell phones or IPODs. And given that technology growth in communications has proven to be exponential in the past, we need to multiply that experience by a factor of ten for the next twenty years.

When dealing with the design and construction of a new facility, it is important to identify needs early in the process. When renovating an existing facility, many of the same considerations should be addressed, and the task is often more challenging.

Structured Wire

Structured wire is a technology of electrical interconnect, and is rapidly becoming standard in many parts of the U.S. The products try to anticipate future needs, and provide standardized methods for implementation. A Structured Wire facility includes telephone, computer networking, video, and sometimes fiber optic facilities. Structured Wiring Service Panels are usually about 4' high by 4' wide and are installed in a service area such as a garage, attic, or basement. The Structured Wiring is most often installed in new construction, but it can be utilized in existing structures.

The Structured Wiring Service Panels for a structured wire installation is a central panel where services (cable TV, telephone, satellite, internet, etc.) enter the house. A minimum requirement for each panel is a telephone-connecting block for terminating the twisted pair, and a passive cable splitter for the coax. Room should be left in the panel for upgrades.

Although individual Ethernet and video cables can be used, specifically designed multimedia cables are becoming standard. A dual cable, for example, consists of one Ethernet and one video interconnect under a single jacket. Another composite construction could include 2 Ethernet cables for voice and data and 2 video cables. These multimedia cables speed the installation time because multiple cables can be pulled at the same time, and it minimizes termination times since all ends are identifiable.

Ideally, the wired network has a "home run" configuration: a separate interconnect for cable TV, phone, and Internet data transmission is made from the Structured Wiring Service Panel to every point of use.

Structured Wiring panels are used to provide the miles of cable interconnects required to distribute Audio, television, security camera video, telephone, and digital communication applications, and now combines it with multimedia facilities. Structured wiring works well with a wireless network because administrators can connect wireless access points throughout the house through an Ethernet connection.

Computer Networks

The right technology choice is driven by what kind of property is being serviced. In a good communications interconnect plan, all interconnects are run to a central location. It may be OK to run a phone line in series (room to room), but it is not OK for Internet network cables.

Technology changes fast.

  • It was only twenty-five years ago that Steven Jobs said that no computer would ever need more than 64K of memory.

It is important to future-proof your plans. Fiber-optic solutions seem to be an unnecessary luxury today, especially with the performance available with high speed Ethernet. However, the majority of technology solutions for residential and small business applications are currently based on Ethernet.

Wireless networking (WiFi) is another technology that is rapidly impacting computer networking. Market research firm IDC projects that the total number of enterprise WiFi access points installed will grow from 1.6 million units in 2006 to 11.5 million units by 2010. Up to 20 users can connect to a single WLAN access point and receive adequate service. IDC also predicts that Ethernet switch ports, those predominantly deployed in enterprises, will grow from 172 million units to 208 million units in the same period.

Ethernet

Ethernet is the dominant standard for hardwire data networking. Ethernet hardware is usually standard in all new computers. If the method for high-speed data (cable modem, DSL, etc.) is hardwire, then the interface to the computer will usually be an Ethernet port.

Ethernet interconnections should not exceed 100 meters, and separate cables are needed for data and phone. It is possible to run Ethernet in the same jacket as phone, but it can be unreliable, and is definitely not advisable for High Speed Ethernet (> 100 Mbps). Use a separate cable, the "home-run" design, where possible from the network switch to each point of use.

With new construction, it is also advisable to interconnect buildings with conduit. Install it in the ground while it's still cheap to do so, and, keep the ownership rights. This will future-proof the property for later upgrades.

Retrofit Strategies

There are two common methods for retrofitting buildings: Wireless and Ethernet. Wireless has the apparent advantage of being less expensive and easier to implement, especially for retrofits. However, this is not always the case. Today, the answer is probably a combination of both systems. At points of use that are obvious and static, for example the home office, an Ethernet connection is appropriate. Overlaying this system with a wireless (WiFi) network provides improved flexibility.

Wireless

Wireless Ethernet (802.11) can be a good choice for communication retrofits for small projects. WiFi operates on radio frequencies (RF) and was developed for wireless digital communication between personal computers and consumer electronic devices. Most new computers include built-in WiFi support. Wireless Ethernet has applications including large buildings. Wireless access within common areas of a property, such as a pool area, can be an elegant solution. Wireless also is an excellent choice where it is difficult to run additional wire.

Hardwire

In some situations, rewiring can make more sense. For larger projects, a hard wire approach is more reliable, and in the end, cheaper. Wireless looks good "on paper", but in a large building, universal connectivity is difficult. The average cost to rewire with Ethernet cable is about $300 per point of use in large buildings. Having infrastructure in place for future expansion may justify the expense of rewiring.

Environmental issues must be considered when rewiring. Issues such as asbestos and lead-paint abatement are examples. There are those applications where rewiring is not an option because of construction constraints, unless exterior conduit is used, and esthetics often preclude this option. Once the wiring is installed, implementing the network is straightforward using standard Ethernet hub or switch equipment. Remember that there is a 100 meter distance limitation with Ethernet. In large projects, locating Ethernet switches in each building or on each floor of a high rise resolves the issue.

Fiber Optic vs. Ethernet

Fiber is probably not the solution to deploy today given Ethernet's ability to handle high speed communication over the short distances typical of large buildings. But it is difficult to anticipate the future. Fiber optic cables are used instead of traditional copper cables because this technique offers more capacity and is less susceptible to electrical interference. Fiber optic is becoming more common as a way to provide very high speed Internet service (100 Mbps and higher).

Uncompressed HDTV

If you want to distribute uncompressed video, say from the output of a satellite or cable receiver, then the bandwidth requirements are significant. The alternative would be to distribute the compressed signal, and install a receiver (with decompression) at each point of use. If you are in the first camp, read on, otherwise you can skip forward to the next section.

Today's video installations grow ever more complex, with source components positioned a good distance away from the display. The distance is the biggest factor in determining which technology to use. There are two choices, Copper or Fiber Optic.

An uncompressed digital video signal is a challenge. Fiber optic interconnect is the best technique for DVI and HDMI, because of the enormous bandwidth available. The bandwidth of Ethernet is less than 0.6 Gbps, and this is much lower than uncompressed video data (1.65 Gbps), it is easy to understand why fiber optic is better when it comes to high bandwidth digital signal transfer for long cable runs. Typically, 1080p signal would mean 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 Hz. At this high rate of speed and large bandwidth of data, the impedance of many copper cables can cause signal loss at less than 20 feet, and this results in significant distortion.

Interconnect reliability over time should also be considered. The optical conversion electronics should last at least 80,000 hrs of continuous operation. Fiber optic cables are immune to electrical interference such as gadio frequency interference (RFI). With Fiber Optic Conversion technology, there is zero impedance (zero loss during transmission).

Summary

High quality interconnect is an investment. As digital video technology improves, you may be upgrading your DVD player or TV and it is important to make sure your interconnects do not become obsolete. Utilize a technology good to at least 1080p. Fiber Optics may be more expensive, but the price differential may be worth consideration for future-proofing your system now.

The goal is to deliver a cost-effective, future-proof deployment. It is more expensive and difficult to retrofit later. Inexpensive computing, the Internet, and digital communications are transforming the our planet. Twenty years of stunningly rapid advances in technology have brought computing into businesses and homes in ways that were recently not imagined.

Refurbished HDTV - LCD Or Plasma in a Refurbished HDTV

When looking for a refurbished HDTV, what features should you look for? Well, what features to look for in a TV, depends primarily on your circumstances and the reason for buying a TV. In this article, we will discuss the lcd vs. plasma debate, and what you should look for in a refurbished HDTV. After all, a refurbished HDTV is like a new one.

Okay, so there's this universal debate about HDTVs: lcd or plasma. Following are the good points to each.

Lcd: If you'll use the TV mainly for games and also as a computer monitor - then choose the lcd. Also, if your room has a lot of direct sunlight, and you'll view the HDTV when it's bright, an lcd is a better choice.

Plasma: But if you're passionate about watching movies, or if you watch a lot of sports and you need to be able to really see the action well - then a plasma tv will be better, because of its instant response time and high refresh rate. And if you watch TV during the evening, or you close the blinds during the day to block out the light, then a plasma tv fits the bill.

Plasma TVs definitely have more depth (especially its ability to render deeper blacks) than lcd. But it also generates more heat and weighs more.

So, basically the features to look for are the same in a refurbished HDTV and a new TV. After all, the refurbished HDTV is like new; if it's factory refurbished it has passed the test to meet or exceed factory standards. And it has been tested that it works perfectly, too. But, since it can't legally be sold as a new unit, it's to your advantage. When buying a refurbished HDTV, you end up getting so much more value for your money, i.e. bigger size, more features, etc.

One major thing to look out for when buying a refurbished HDTV is to buy it from a reputable dealer. The number one concern when looking for any refurbished product is if it's safe. Spending even a dime for a broken TV is like throwing money in the garbage. Find out exactly what to look out for here: http://www.squidoo.com/refurbished-hdtv You definitely can get a name brand, high quality TV at incredible savings! Thousands have already done so.

Telling your friends and family that you bought a refurbished HDTV is your choice. They will never know if you don't tell them! It looks (and practically is) brand new. It comes with a manufacturer's 90 day warranty and yes, the warranty is in-home! Amazing Photography Editing Guide

You need not know anything about the technical aspect of editing, but can still edit digital images. You may have an imagined how that photo would turn up when you initially took a shot. Sometimes, the image may not reflect your thoughts. You land up in disappointment. Hey! Don't worry your disappointment can work magic. You just point out what all you do not like in the image you have just taken. You just describe how the image should actually look like. Have you. Aah! Now your becoming an editor. The next step is sit at your personal computer and start exploring ways to make the image look like how you want it to be.

Not what you shoot, it is what you show others in your digital photograph that matters. You may want to show something to someone, but the picture may have some features that you don't want them to see, you cannot tear it either. You see editing helps you in such situations.

Morphing, there are may photo morphing softwares available to morph your pictures. Have you seen in pictures, the hero; a child image may change to become the man; that is morphing, a kind of morphing. Well it is very simple you need two digital images, scan them and save to your computer. It can be your son's photo, and your husbands photo you can morph images of your son in to his father or his grandfather, or you can morph your own self to your mother...See all it requires is a morphing software, and the images, and a few clicks away see even you are editing! Great thing! Big achievement. You will feel you are creating graphics for a fairy tale!

It is always important to edit your photographs in order. Always start adjusting the light exposure effects and then land up adjusting the red eye effect. See follow this sequence, exposure, color, crop, eliminate red eye! You can work in any order, but a sequential methodology is a safe game for better results.

The light settings in a photograph can be adjusted with sliders, auto adjust option in the fix pane is a very effective idea. Even after you turn auto adjust you can further adjust the light settings if you are not satisfied with the output of the software! You can make your color pictures to black and white, and black and white pictures to color by adjusting the exposure mode. If you have a color photograph you can use the adjust color option in fix pane to change it to a black and white. Color picture can be changed to black and white, but the other way round may not be natural unless you are an expert editor and technically very sound!

Have fun with you picture. On side of photo editing on a computer is animated gif. You can take your photos and make them come to life. Making a moving butterfly in the background of a mountain shoot is awesome. Wow you friends and family next time you upload a photo to your blog from you latest family vacation.

The very many images you shoot and all the images you have edited, the effects you have created are of no use when you don't share or exhibit it to others. Show your friends and get some tips from them on how to edit images. Such a chat will enable you to understand what actually people do look in a photograph and what are the areas to be edited to create an effective photograph!

Dolby vs DTS Surround Sound - Which is Better?

Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround - Identifying the main differences between these multichannel sound formats

Many audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts argue that DTS surround sound formats can deliver higher quality audio in comparison to their corresponding Dolby formats, with improved dynamic range, better representation of subtle detail in audio content, and improved signal-to-noise ratio.

Partly, this reasoning arises because DTS surround sound is usually encoded at a higher data rate than Dolby Digital and its lineup of associated formats.

This is more than understandable. We are dealing with lossy compression techniques. A higher bit-rate for the same format should normally implies superior sound during playback, as less compression in the encoding process should result in a better representation of the original sound source.

In this Dolby vs DTS debate, DTS people argue that they are after 'sonic perfection, not space consumption' - hence the higher bit rate and lower compression.

Dolby would counteract that their codec is more efficient and therefore, it can run at a lower bit rate.

In other words, one cannot simply draw conclusion on sound quality based on raw bit rates and compression figures alone; it also depends on how well designed are the encoding and decoding algorithms. And this makes sense too, but then...

There are relatively big differences in raw bit rates and compression levels when comparing Dolby vs DTS sound formats, implying a too wide a difference in codec efficiency - about 3 times as much - in favor of Dolby. Is it possible that Dolby sound formats achieve this level of codec efficiency?

The truth is that when dealing with different sound formats, the whole equation starts to get extremely complicated; it is not that easy to define what makes better sound.

This Dolby vs DTS is a much debated issue, but in reality is it true that one is better than the other?

To understand why this Dolby vs DTS surround sound controversy, it is necessary to have an understanding of the main differences between these formats. In particular, there are significant differences in bit-rate and compression levels as applicable to Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround. There are also important differences in the way these formats are implemented in movie house applications and in home entertainment.

It is not the scope of this write-up to go into these details; for the relevant information on the differences between Dolby and DTS, please read the full article appearing on Practical Home Theater Guide at http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/dolby-vs-dts.html.

At the same time, it is important to realize that these same differences between these two formats have actually given rise to this Dolby vs DTS controversy.

So where does this Dolby vs DTS debate leads? Sound quality is an extremely subjective issue and therefore it is not easy to define what constitutes better sound. Opinions vary when comparing Dolby vs DTS and range from 'DTS is better' to 'Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound are pretty much the same'.

...and what do we say about this Dolby vs DTS debate?

Both Dolby Digital and DTS Surround are capable of achieving similar results in delivering surround sound, even though the lower compression and higher bit-rate of DTS Digital Surround should theoretically yield apparent benefits in sound quality.

At the same time, one cannot ignore the fact that these two formats make use of different coding schemes and syntax to perceptually compress audio.

This means that efficiency in terms of data utilization between these two formats is different. Therefore, direct comparison of the respective Dolby and DTS sound formats based solely on their raw bit rates, cannot be taken as an objective measure of sound quality.

Thus, while it is objectively possible to compare the resultant sound quality for the same audio format encoded at different bit rates, say in a movie house application and in home entertainment, yet it is not so straightforward when dealing with different formats.

Rather, for identically sourced audio content, it would be much easier for the listener during Dolby vs DTS 'blind' listening tests to notice a change in sound quality when changing the playback equipment between different brands, than when changing from Dolby to DTS. In other words, you need a thoroughly refined audio playback setup to bring out that subtle difference in sound quality between these two formats.

Breakfast on the Go - 10 Fun and Healthy Ideas

Its 6:30 a.m. and your alarm goes off with that horribly annoying buzz sound. You hop out of bed, flick on the coffee maker, jump into the shower, and then run around soaking wet trying to figure out what to wear. By the time you make it out the door (5 minutes late), you have forgotten about breakfast, as usual.

Whether you're the cereal snacking type, the coffee and chocolate lover, or the salty, crunchy craver, here are 10 quick and healthy breakfast suggestions.

Please note - We don't want you to have to do any thinking in the morning. All preparations should be done the night before!

1. Fresh and Tangy Fruit Smoothie - Combine your favorite cut up summer fruit in a juice blender the night before, with some soy milk, water or fruit juice. Instead of hitting the coffee pot when you wake up, simply add ice to your fruit mixture, blend and pour into a to-go cup. You'll have a delicious, antioxidant and protein-rich drink to sip on throughout the day!

2. Quick and Chocolaty - For those of you who prefer something chocolaty flavored, try mixing up a vitamin-enriched meal supplement with some low fat milk, hot cocoa powder and ice. You'll have a vitamin rich, ice cold, invigorating shake to keep your energy levels going throughout your day!

3. The perfect duet, Crunchy but Smooth - 1. In a brown paper bag, prepare a plastic spoon, a Ziploc bag of granola, and a container of your favorite Bio yogurt 2.Grab the bag as you run out the door!

4. Breakfast lover's sandwich - Using olive oil, 2 eggs, salt and pepper, fry up a golden brown omelet. Place omelet on a whole wheat roll decked with two slices of tomato and a layer of crisp lettuce. Wrap in foil and refrigerate. Grab sandwich before running out door! - This complementary duet of protein and complex carbohydrates should keep you well energized and satisfied throughout your morning!

5. Coffee and Chocolate - If you're one of those people with chocoholic cravings, this breakfast is for you. Fill a snack sized zip loc bag with antioxidant rich, dark chocolate-covered Raisinets or Craisins to tote along with your morning cup of coffee. This palate-pleasing duo will help get your brain going, and keep your energy levels raised all morning long!

6. The Salty Crunch - For those of us with salty / crunchy cravings, try packing a bag of multi-grained crackers combined with a container of low fat cottage cheese for a protein- and fiber-packed heart-healthy meal on the go!

7. A colorful combination - For both a visual and palette pleasing breakfast, in a disposable container combine strawberries, kiwis, pomegranate seeds and a handful of chopped walnuts. This antioxidant, fiber- and protein-rich is a sure winner for keeping energy levels up and preserving your youthful glow.

8. The Breakfast Bar - Too lazy for preparations? Try Fig Newtons, Nutri-Grain, Nature Valley or Chewy granola bars for a vitamin-enriched energy boost to get your morning going.

9. Cereal Medley - A personal favorite of mine, due to its infinite variety.. Mix up your favorite whole grain cereal (I like oatmeal squares or honey nut shredded wheat) along with a variety of dried fruit and nuts to create your own vitamin- fiber- and energy-rich breakfast medley.

10. Instant oatmeal - Instead of filling your cup with coffee, try hot milk. Add a packet of instant oatmeal and stir with a plastic spoon for a filling protein- and fiber-rich breakfast you can eat on the go!
